A chest X-Ray done in AAU showed extensive \npneumoperitoneum and subsequent CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis showed significant free intra-abdominal gas, \nconsistent with perforated viscus and the site of perforation most likely being at the sigmoid colon, secondary to acute \nsigmoid diverticulitis. Mr. Norwood underwent a laparotomy with washout of peritoneal cavity and placement of pelvic \ndrain (detailed report available on patient's clinical portal) and was subsequently started on IV amoxicillin + gentamicin \n+ metronidazole for 7 days. Mr. Norwood is eating and drinking now, his bowels are opening normally as before, the \ndrain has been taken out and he has been switched to PO co-amoxiclav for a total of 7 days. He is stable and fit for \ndischarge and should have a flexible sigmoidoscopy in 6 weeks time. He will also be followed up in Ms. Leitch's clinic as \nan outpatient in 3 months. \nPage 4 of
